Compact ETCS retrofit solution
European Train Control System for rolling stock
Keeping existing equipment suitable for ETCS
Making existing vehicles suitable for ETCS (European Train Control System) often means high replacement costs, long decommissioning and complex recertification. Moreover, for small series and special vehicles — such as maintenance and inspection vehicles, shunting locomotives and work equipment — a generic, one-size-fits-all ETCS solution is often insufficient. EVC-C has been specially developed to solve this issue.
EVC-C is a compact ETCS on-board solution for retrofit projects in small series and special rail vehicles. Instead of a generic approach, EVC-C offers exactly the functionality needed for the intended use and the national context. This reduces integration risks, limits the impact on existing vehicles and shortens the lead time for approval. Thanks to the modular rack-based hardware, the SIL4 2oo2 safety architecture and the strict separation between safety and communication, a solution is created that is safe, explainable and manageable.
Purpose-built instead of generic
EVC-C is not a standard solution, but a purpose-built retrofit platform for small series and special vehicles. The strength lies in the combination of compact design, safety by design, an open but controlled architecture and predictable certification — which means that even unique or low-volume vehicles can continue to be used in an ETCS network.
The advantages of EVC-C
- Compact modular hardware for limited installation space
- Fit-for-purpose ETCS functionality reduces costs and complexity
- SIL4 2oo2 architecture supports security and predictable certification
- Standard interfaces and proven peripherals reduce integration risk
What makes us stand out
Applied in practice
EVC-C is used for the retrofit of maintenance and inspection vehicles, shunting locomotives, freight and work locomotives, and other unique or low-volume rail vehicles that must also remain operational in an ETCS network.
